In winter, we should sleep like logs: the nights are long, and we want to stay under the duvet. Yet many people find their sleep less restful at this time of year. Heating turned up too high, lack of light, cold feet… here are nine simple tips to get your good nights back.
In short
- A cool bedroom (around 17-19 °C) helps you fall asleep.
- Morning light helps regulate your sleep rhythm.
- Warm feet make it easier to fall asleep.
- A regular evening routine helps the body get ready.
9 tips for sleeping better in winter
1. Don't overheat the bedroom
A bedroom that's too warm disrupts sleep. A temperature of around 17 to 19 °C is generally recommended. Make up for it with a good duvet rather than the radiator.
2. Air the room every day
Ten minutes of airing in the morning refreshes the air, even in the depths of winter.
3. Keep your feet warm
Cold feet often delay falling asleep. A hot-water bottle at the foot of the bed, clean socks that aren't too tight, and slippers for the last steps before bed. Keep a pair by the bed, like our Merano slipper, for night-time wake-ups on a cold floor.
4. Make the most of daylight
Going outside in the morning, even on a grey day, helps your body clock settle. Having breakfast near a window is already a good start.
5. Dim the lights in the evening
Low lamps with warm light, candles: prepare your body for rest.
6. Limit screens before bed
Half an hour without your phone before bed, replaced by a book or soft music.
7. Adopt a routine
Herbal tea, reading, gentle stretches: repeating the same gestures every evening tells your body it's time to sleep.
8. Eat a light dinner, not too late
A heavy meal just before bed can make it harder to fall asleep.
9. Choose suitable bedding
A winter duvet, flannel or washed-linen bedding, a comfortable pillow: the investment is worth it.

When to seek advice?
