A pretty pair of sandals can quickly turn into torture: straps that cut into the foot, a sole that's too flat, a heel that slips. Yet a well-designed sandal can be worn all day, in town or on holiday. Here are the criteria that really make a difference.
In short
- An anatomical footbed that supports the arch is better than a flat sole.
- Adjustable straps let you adapt the fit to your foot.
- A soft material prevents rubbing on bare skin.
- A treaded outsole provides grip, even on wet ground.
The 5 criteria of a comfortable sandal
1. A sole that really supports
Flip-flops and very flat sandals offer almost no support. An anatomical footbed with a marked heel cup and a slight curve under the arch spreads your body weight and limits fatigue at the end of the day.
2. Adjustable straps
Every foot is different: high instep, wide or narrow foot. Two independently adjustable straps let you tailor the fit at the front and over the top of the foot. That's the main strength of our Ravello sandal, whose two metal buckles adjust separately.
3. A material that's soft on the skin
In summer, we wear sandals barefoot. Stiff or synthetic straps can stick to the skin and rub. Vegan suede, soft to the touch, doesn't stick to bare skin.
4. Cushioning underfoot
A cork-effect midsole absorbs shock with every step. On cobblestones or pavements, you feel the difference from the first hour of walking.
5. An outsole that grips
Poolside, wet floors, smooth paving stones: a treaded sole prevents slips. It's an often-forgotten criterion, yet essential on holiday.

Sandal or clog: which to choose for summer?
A sandal leaves the foot in the open air, ideal in hot weather and by the sea. A clog, closed at the front, protects the toes more and can be worn in town or at the office. Many people choose to have both: that's exactly the idea of our Sienna clog + Ravello sandal Duo, at a gentler price than buying them separately.
Choosing your size
With a sandal, your foot shouldn't overhang the sole, at the front or at the heel. Measure your foot at the end of the day and check our size guide. The Ravello comes in EU sizes 36 to 47, and size exchanges are free for 60 days.
Frequently asked questions
How do you avoid blisters with new sandals?
Wear them at home for a few hours first, adjust the straps well and choose a soft material. Our article how to avoid blisters explains the method.
Are flat sandals bad for your feet?
Worn for a long time, completely flat sandals with no support can tire your feet. An anatomical footbed is more comfortable over time. If you have pain, ask a podiatrist for advice.
Can you wear vegan suede sandals in the rain?
A shower isn't a problem: just let your sandals air-dry, then brush the straps.
